Choose your cooking oil wisely. Your health is important.

Introduction:

In any Indian kitchen, Oil is an essential ingredient, without which no Indian cuisine is complete.

In Indian Market, abundant types and brands of Oil are available at every shelf of the Super markets, Hyper Malls and  our street corner Kirana shops.

Reality Check:

But are we taking care to use the right type of Oil.... Well one cannot  think so. If one does not use the right type of cooking oil, then one is taking his/her and family to heightened  health risks in the longer run.

Fact of the matter is the type of oils most prevalent in Indian Kitchens are  .... Refined Oil,
Over 80 percent of the Indian kitchens use Refined Oil at least three to four times a day.

What is wrong with Refined Oils which we have been using for over four to five decades...
The proof of the pudding is eating.... One can see in every Indian family, his/her neighborhood,
It is indeed  unfortunate now,  the Indian health has taken a toll in more higher coverage of diabetes, coronary, kidney related ailments, Overweight (Obesity) and even one can become cancer-prone.
Indian kitchens cannot do away with Oil in their dishes,  so the fancy of Refined Oil (or Radio Oil when it was introduced in late 60s) caught up the fancy of Indian homemakers which is still continuing is a vast majority of them.

Refined Oil is a  Spoilt or a Spent Oil which are available in markets like Rice Bran Oil, Sunflower Oil, Groundnut Oil,  Soya bean oil etc,

Refining a Oil involves a multi-stage process flow, whereby, it is extracted at very high temperatures over 200 deg celsius, using solvents, chemicals and hexanes. Meanwhile in the above process all vitamins and minerals of the ingredients are completely destroyed.

The  healthy fatty acid bonds are broken and trans-fat is formed and loses its natural properties. Consumption of such oils in the long run over decades creates a dent in your circulation system, digestive system, reproductive system and endocrine  functions to complete.

It is better to change the type of Oil in your kitchen if one is using Refined Oil.

So what next:

Next option is OLIVE OIL.

Olive oil is found in almost all Super markets during the last five years.  It is a result of overactive marketing strategy by European and U.S markets.

Olive Oil is healthy, no doubt about it.  Adulteration is near- imminent in imported ones as  more than 50% of Olive Oil imported is prone to mixing and add-ons .

Olive oil is too pricey, 1 litre costing 1200/= and above and still it does not jell with Indian cuisine.
One cannot use Olive oil for Dhal Sabji, Parathas or Murg Makhni.
Yes, it is good for Pasta, Salads, Dressings under Mediterranean, American and Spanish cuisine.

Olive oil is no doubt a good choice for cooking, but a simple plain fact is Olive Oil does not suit Indian kitchens.

Alternate Option:

So which is the Best Oil for Cooking in Indian Kitchens....

Yes, undoubtedly it is the Wood Pressed or Cold Pressed or Kacchi Ghaani version of Groundnut, Peanut , Sesame and Coconut Oil.

Cold Pressed Oil is prepared using ancient method of extracting Oil from the seed/nut in a churner.
Few decades ago, a churner used to be attached to a bullock and the bullock would circle in a specified path  and seeds or nuts are crushed and oil is derived.
The Oil obtained out of the churner is as good as its nut/seed, the aroma, the feel and taste.
Now mechanical churner is used due to technology availability, Yet it is done in very less temperatures or no heat is involved during the process.
Retains all vitamins and minerals
Cold Pressed retain the aroma of its seed/nut without any additives.

Jells with all  indian dishes

All the Cold Pressed Oils have a high smoking point and it facilitate shallow and deep fry.

The Cold Pressed Oils derived out of Groundnut / Sesame contain Mono-unsaturated fat (MUFA) which further stakes its claim for its health perspective.

Cold Pressed Oils contain Omega 3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K as well enriching  your health as a catalyst benefiting immune system and circulatory functions.

Dispelling the myth about bad effects of Coconut Oil as it is high in saturated fats, today  there are over 1500 studies proving that Coconut Oil is best suited to a human body without any ill effects.

To conclude, in order to safeguard our health at least from now on, please discard the use of Refined Oils and switch over to Wood pressed or Cold Pressed Oils and the ensuing result is for you to see in a shorter period of time.
